Fire in the Field

Fire in the Field is a Boston-based rock trio built around the chemistry of vocalist and guitarist Mike Moore, bassist Jeff Badolato, and drummer Jared Graham. The group makes heavy, guitar-driven rock with a bluesman’s swagger, a punk heart, and a deep groove—drawing equally from psychedelic rock, funk, soul, R&B, and the raw physicality of a great live band.Currently, Fire in the Field is releasing a series of videos from their performance at Power Station at Berklee NYC, Enter The Void, on their YouTube channel while writing their next full-length record.

Since forming, Fire in the Field has developed a reputation for performances that are raw, electric, and unpredictable. Their music balances tightly constructed riffs with dangerous improvisation, surreal storytelling, and an instinct for pushing songs beyond their expected limits. At the center is Moore’s fearless approach to the guitar and his singular stage presence, backed by the deep, locked-in groove of Badolato and Graham.

The band’s influences run from Jimi Hendrix and Band of Gypsys, Led Zeppelin, T. Rex, and Prince to Rage Against the Machine and Clutch. The result is a sound that refuses to sit comfortably inside a single genre: heavy without being confined to metal, funky without becoming retro, and psychedelic without losing its teeth.

Moore and Badolato have maintained a longtime musical partnership, forming the foundation of Fire in the Field’s sound. Badolato’s minimalist, instinctive bass playing creates space for Moore’s mad-scientist approach to guitar, while Graham provides the relentless rhythmic engine that drives the trio forward. Together, they operate less like a conventional rock band and more like a single, constantly shifting organism.

Fire in the Field’s recorded history stretches back to 2009, with releases including Gypsy Tea Room (2014), Look So Strange (2016), War Bonnet (2017), Resurrect (2020), Live at La Grange (2021), and Ash & Cinder (2023). Along the way, the band has released studio recordings, live albums, and live-in-studio sessions, documenting a group as interested in capturing spontaneous energy as it is in crafting songs.

The band has performed extensively throughout the Northeast and beyond, appearing at venues including The Middle East, The Paradise, Brighton Music Hall, Once Ballroom, The Stone Church, Rockwood Music Hall, The Well, The Cantab Lounge, Geno’s Rock Club, Radio Bean, The El Cid in Los Angeles, and Aquarium in Austin, among many others. Fire in the Field also made the trip to Austin for SXSW.

Their music has received recognition from both the Boston and New England music communities. Fire in the Field was nominated for Best Rock Act of the Year by the Boston Music Awards in 2020, and received nominations for Best Rock Act of the Year in 2019 and Best of Massachusetts in 2018 from the New England Music Awards.

In 2017, the band's song “Eyes,” from Look So Strange, was licensed for a Discovery Channel television show, receiving a full-minute placement. The band’s recent EPs have also received regular rotation on nearly one hundred college radio stations across the United States, as well as internet stations in the U.S. and U.K., including Little Steven’s Underground Garage on SiriusXM.

Critics have described Fire in the Field as “a certain magic we’ve been missing on the main rock scene for quite some time” and called them “the next chapter” of rock. Their music has also been praised for the collision of sensual songwriting, killer riffs, and an intensity capable of taking over an audience.

Fire in the Field is a band built for the space between control and chaos. Three musicians, one loud room, and no guarantee of what happens next.
